Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim Helu has overtaken Microsoft founder Bill Gates as the richest person on the planet, as reported by Mexican financial website Sentido Comun. Web what? The slightly more reliable US-based Forbes magazine, updated its listings in April to rank Slim as the second richest individual, besting legendary US investor Warren Buffett. Forbes had pegged Slim's wealth at a $53.1 billion, compared to Gates' $56 billion fortune.The best part of the article on this story notes that half of Mexico's population of 104 million live in poverty, which is defined as living on less than two dollars a day.
