The early 90's are coming back, and on the heels of a new Breeders album comes the even more surprising relavation that Portishead has a new record.
Third, which you can guess which release it is, comes out next month.
For the unenlightened, Portishead are one of the seminal trip-hop groups (along with Tricky and Massive Attack) from Bristol, England, who culled their named from a nearby town. Formed in 1991, by Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley, the trio created the short film To Kill A Dead Man, which was heavily inspired by espionage films, and its accompanying soundtrack had the same swanky, swinging feel.
Their two albums, Dummy and Portishead were sexy, hypnotic soundtracks for dimly lit clubs and middle of the night rendevous. Before going on hiatus, the group recorded Roseland NYC Live, where they were accompanied by the New York Philharmonic orchestra, who played new arrangements of their songs.
The next time you are seducing a young lady in your bachelor pad, throw on the Portishead - it's better than a roofie.
