Pope "Eggs" Benedict XVI comes to the U.S.this week to visit the White House, United Nations and Ground Zero. But no matter the photo ops, there's one though on the papal mind - sex abuse.
It's unclear what the prime Catholic will say or do, but the Vatican has confirmed that on at least one occasion Benedict will specifically address the issue. Sources tell me that the Pope will make a challenge to all his practitioners and clergy - to increase the abuses, cover ups, and blind-eye practice of the past.
The Catholic Church, never known for progressive thought or hasty action, is expected to do what they do best - act hypocritically and continue with business-as-usual. Modest figures put the Pope's challenge at 1,000 children a year, which, with three months already gone, will mean the clergy will have to play catch up along with playing doctor.
Two open-air masses at the Washington Nationals' baseball stadium and New York's Yankee Stadium will show the shy Pope on the public stage, but will his message of "getting to third base" make the impact Vatican officials are hoping for? And why is it New Yorkers are so against an outdoor hockey match being played in Yankee Stadium before it gets demolished, but have no issue with the leader of the largest organized molestation group (sorry NAMBLA) in the world holding hours?
