Chuck Heston was many things - a tablet bearer, an ape hating freedom fighter, a charioteer, a gun advocate, and a political lobbyist. But now, he's dead.
Ol' Charlton reminds us of a time when being a star wasn't about being a great actor, but being right for the role. His bombast and melodramatic intensity clearly influenced many actors (Bill Shatner, I'm looking at you), and truly fit the grandeur and epic nature of his movies. While gaining notoriety in his later years as the NRA leader, let us not forget his turns in Soylent Green, Ben-Hur, El Cid, A Touch Of Evil, The Ten Commandments, The Omega Man, and Planet Of The Apes.
