Nobody does what they say anymore.
Once great C Jeremy Roenick signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sharks two months after saying he would retire.
"I'm very thankful for this opportunity to play for the San Jose Sharks," Roenick said. "They have a great team, and I look forward to helping this group compete for the Stanley Cup." Yes, with five straight seasons of declining numbers, you're quite the asset.
Calling his single season with the Kings disappointing would be like calling World War II a European vacation. Roenick hasn't yet realized that he's got no gas left in his tank, and he can't back up all the smack coming from his flapping gums, including his flip flop retirement. Between his whining over rightly failing the cut for the '06 Olympics to his last underachieving season in Phoenix where he had dinner and watched a game unstead of suiting up, JR is full of gusto and little else. It's easy to respect a player who leaves in their prime and keeps their legacy intact, but all Roenick can do is embarrass himself, and the fix he's looking for to feed his ego is not going to come.
