Radio Killed The Radio Star

The once great and avant-garde Indie 103.1 is dead...at least in standard broadcast form.

All they're running now is a loop of Black Flag's "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie" and this (poorly worded) taped message (read by a horrible voice over person):

This is an important message for the Indie 103.1 Radio Audience -

Indie 103.1 will cease broadcasting over this frequency effective immediately. Because of changes in the radio industry and the way radio audiences are measured, stations in this market are being forced to play too much Britney, Puffy and alternative music that is neither new nor cutting edge. Due to these challenges, Indie 103.1 was recently faced with only one option --- to play the corporate radio game.

We have decided not to play that game any longer. Rather than changing the sound, spirit, and soul of what has made Indie 103.1 great Indie 103.1 will bid farewell to the terrestrial airwaves and take an alternative course.

This could only be done on the Internet, a place where rules do not apply and where new music thrives; be it grunge, punk, or alternative - simply put, only the best music.

For those of you with a computer at home or at work, log on to
http://www.indie1031.fm/ and listen to the new Indie 103.1 - which is really the old Indie 103.1, not the version of Indie 103.1 we are removing from the broadcast airwaves.

We thank our listeners and advertisers for their support of the greatest radio station ever conceived, and look forward to continuing to deliver the famed Indie 103.1 music and spirit over the Internet to passionate music listeners around the world.

I know things were not going so well when they began shelling programs the middle of last year and moving the remaining ones all over the schedule. They were Rolling Stone's top radio station on their annual hot list, and now they're gone - what a kiss of death that turned out to be. It's hard to tell how many of the programs are going to make the jump to the web, but losing a good station and gaining another spanish language one just sucks. Eat a dick, corporate radio.

sonuva. i was wondering wtf was going on with that damn commercial. first the morning show switchover, now this. well, i am so glad that right about the same time as all of this, i discovered k-jazz. i think its 88.1 or near there. tasty stuff a lot of the time, no commercials.
and i think i'm over the whole nick harcourt thing. i really dig garth trinidad every weeknight, he's the consummate dj. and i feel solid about jason bentley, although he is a bit over-controlling of his speech. needs to loosen up -- he needs a ....THROATPUNCH.
