The Mud Really Flies

With a year until the election and even less for before the field clears to just two rival candidates, Barack Obama complained about the criticisms leveled at him.

"This is so irritating," Obama said when asked about the photo from Muscatine, Iowa.

The photo, taken during a Democratic fundraiser, has a message accompanying it claiming the presidential candidate didn't hold his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance.

Have we gotten to the point were we're trying to undermine candidates because they're not patriotic enough? Or that they're deliberately not participating for some sinister reason? Obama responded the photo was taken during the singing of the national anthem, not the pledge.

"My grandfather taught me how to say the Pledge of Allegiance when I was 2...During the Pledge of Allegiance you put your hand over your heart. During the national anthem you sing."

See, he's at least as capable as a two year old.

"This is the classic dirty trick of the campaign," Obama said. "You don't have to curse them out, just tell them they've got their facts wrong."

He is right though...even if the green senator is not destined for the Oval Office, it's a pretty lame attempt to chip away at credibility and kick up even the tiniest dirt. Really, even if Obama can't swing the Pledge of Allegiance, do you honestly think that's the sign of something worse?
