Restarting The Late Night Wars

“In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theater, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly.”

Conan O'Brien confirmed he is headed to TBS to resume his talk show, which is expected to debut in November. The program will air Mondays through Thursdays at 11pm, shifting TBS' "Lopez Tonight," with George Lopez, to midnight.

O'Brien added, "The good news: I will be doing a show on TBS starting in November! The bad news: I'll be playing Rudy on the all new Cosby Show".

The surprise announcement came as O'Brien started a two-month, nationwide comedy tour in Eugene, OR, amid persistent reports that he was likely to claim Fox as his new late-night home. Barring Fox, syndication was widely considered O'Brien's most likely option. Few if anyone mentioned TBS as an option. O'Brien began serious talks with the network just last week.

O'Brien will be making around $10 million annually and also own the show - a key feature missing from his NBC days. And lest you cry hypocrisy, O'Brein and the network heads met after Lopez was consulted and blessed the arrangement. And why not take the amazing lead-in numbers Conan will create, just to be bumped back a half-hour?
