Rybot, L-D', H.R.M. Idle Eyes The See-Thru, and I are going to the Greek Theater to see Sigur Rós tonight! Yeah, we're up on all the Icelandic music!
UPDATE: A very chill show and absolutely beautiful.
I'm not the most familiar with Sigur Rós and thought this would be a good opportunity to see the band that Radiohead once claimed inspire them whilst working on Kid A. What Mogwai is to visceral instrumental music, Sigur Rós is to dreamy ethereal songs. Their sound is multi-textural and dense, and the heavily reverbed falsetto vocals add an angelic tone to their songs.
It's really hard to describe what it was like, though the multitude of clips should help illustrate how similar Iceland and Mars are. It was a terrific visual presentation and there was lots to get lost in, that is, when I wasn't closing my eyes and floating on their cloud of music. Definitely one of the best shows of the year.
