Debating if Linkin Park did an homage or basically ripped off the premise (since most people wouldn't know anyway) is unimportant. It just gives an opportunity to bring up Sunshine, which is one of the best films of last year.
It is one of those films that not only looks amazing but also has a haunting and beautiful soundtrack that meshes perfectly. Rent it, buy it, just make sure you watch it.
