Some of my fonder memories of youth were reading Maurice Sendak books (the others were playing doctor with my down the street neighbor Molly, and the antics of Lifeboy, who lived across the street and swung a hammer for a living when he wasn't swinging a heroin needle), and now one is coming to theaters.Where the Wild Things Are is being adapted by Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers, and will star Lauren Ambrose, Catherine Keener, James Gandolfini, and Forest Whitaker. The seven creatures are expected to be portrayed by actors in tall suits, while their faces will be computer generated.
According to those who have seen very early test screenings of the movie, the film is "not for children".
We'll find out in October 2008.
