They're not all Sean Penn bleeding liberals in Hollywood. But this short list of Republicans surprised me.
Dennis Hopper Self confessed (hell, he was in An American Carol). It’s not that surprising, I suppose, but come on: He directed Easy Rider. It stings a little.
Vince Vaughn Also a self-confessed Republican, though I doubt he’s a Bush Republican. It’s the midwestern upbringing, I presume. This one would have hurt a lot more back around Swingers, but I can let it go.
Denzel Washington Technically, Washington is an Obama Republican; he donated the max to Obama, but he’s still a hardcore Christian conservative and had even been discussed, hypothetically, as someone to put on the Republican ticket this year. He doesn’t often reveal his politics, but a few years ago, he revealed himself on “The Today Show.”
Dwayne Johnson The Rock spoke at the Republican National Convention in 2000. It is strange that his career and image have been the opposite of what I think represents a GOP member.
Sam Raimi Ouch. The director of the Evil Dead trilogies actually donated money to the Bush/Cheney campaigns in 2000 and 2004. That one stings the most.
