Countdown To F1 2010 - The Bahrain Track

Wrapping up the prelude to the new F1 season with a look at the history of the track hosting the first race of the season, Bahrain.

Ferrari have won three of the six Bahrain Grands Prix to date. Renault, or moreso, Fernando Alonso, has taken two others, while Jenson Button took the checkered flag last year. In the track's debut, it was Michael Schumacher who was victorious.

Half of the races at Sakhir have been won from pole position. Only twice has the winner not started on the front row - in 2006 and 2009, when Alonso and Button respectively won from fourth.

Circuit Information

Located in the south of the island and surrounded by desert, the Sakhir circuit is one of the most modern in the world. The layout consists of a 6/10 mile long start/finish straight and 15 corners - extended from 12 in 2009, with an extra loop of corners after turn four - with three clear overtaking points. Sand can be a problem, making the track slippery and accelerating the rate of tire wear.

Sakhir track: 3.9 miles, race to be held over 57 laps. Total distance 220.60 miles.

Race lap record: 2004 - Michael Schumacher (Ferrari) 1:30.252.
