Postscript: Naming The Experiment

Now that His Words - Not Mine (our first attempt / book) is done, it's time to unveil the name of this thing...

(drumroll)

It's called Halcyon.

Chapter Twenty Six

This is it!


Our experiment, His Words - Not Mine, has reached it's conclusion. The last chapter is now up and you can see how this half-year long serial ends!


What now? A little rest from the storytelling grind, but I think it is safe to say that there will be another novel next year from us, and like this debut, we won't know what it will be about when we start and only have the full story when you do - at the end. We've also spoken briefly about trying to put all the chapters together and get it printed into a physical copy you can put on your nightstand or bookcase or toilet, but we'll probably do that after some editing for grammar, spelling, and just making sure that 26 alternating chapters actually make some kind of sense. Next week I'll let you know what the title is going to be, since that's my side of the deal.


Thanks to everybody who read along and gave us feedback, and for those of you waiting for the complete tale, now you can jump in and get the whole thing. Or read it again!

Chapter Twenty Five

To quote one of the character's favorite bands from our sprawling epic, "So let it be written, so let it be done!"

Yes, my tour of duty on this project is over, but don't you think that's all we have at His Words - Not Mine. There's still the final chapter to come...but first, you've got to get through this week's installment!

Penultimate Weekend

Amongst all else going on, this is the last weekend I'll be working on His Words - Not Mine, book one.

If you haven't been following it, you're a dick, but there's 24 gloriously duo-authored chapters already waiting for you. But now is my last shot before I hand over the last chapter to Scartoe to (hopefully) wrap up with a nice, tidy bow. It has become a joy and a hassle committing the time to it, but I am very happy with the results and the effect of the process.

The real trouble is determining what needs to go in to steer this bitch to a conclusion, and knowing that it's got to be clear since I have no second chance to clean up or clarify. Plus there's the urge to try and wrap some elements up because, even though the trick has been to trade off chapters without any planning, discussion, or sharing of ideas, I know we both have been building up to a finish that is not necessarily shared - and I think we both want to try and end with the story we have been (separately) working up to. Also, it felt like there was a lot of ground to cover across the chapters, but now that we're at the end, you realize that you've got to reach the termination and you've only got so much time to do it. I expect these last two to be on the heavier end in terms of volume / word count.

Thankfully, I've been thinking about this all week - unlike my routine for the latter chapters where I'm able to read it when it posts, and then once again before I start before seeing what inspiration strikes. I'm not concerned about hitting that finish line, but I know that this will not be as easy as it has been as of late.
